HayMax Plus and Propionic Hay Acid are the same product: a buffered propionic acid preservative for high-moisture hay, corn, grain, silage, haylage and feed blends. It helps inhibit mold, including Aspergillus, and allows hay baling at moisture levels up to 30%. It is not recommended for hay above 30% moisture. The formulation contains propionic acid, ammonium propionate, citric acid, ammonium citrate, surfactants and colorant. It contains at least 68% propionic acid and 2% citric acid, with 77.5% total working ingredients and no more than 22.5% water. Citric acid helps maintain green color and gives hay a sweeter fragrance; the supplier also notes slightly greater moisture retention during drying. Uniform application is important. Rake hay into medium-sized, fluffy windrows. Attach a three-nozzle boom to the baler pickup so the spray reaches the hay while it is still fluffy and can penetrate the windrow. Use fan-type nozzles at a minimum pressure of 20 psi; flood-type nozzles are not suitable. Store out of direct sunlight. Package options include a 480 lb drum and a 2,400 lb tote.
